Students of the Sydney University Evangelical Union faced with de-registration if they did not remove from their constitution a requirement that requires students to sign a faith-based declaration in order to become members, voted to stand up for their rights. They have refused to remove the clause stating that this ultimatum violated their human rights. They wrote to their 600 members that it was necessary to maintain their identity as a Christian group and that they believe that individuals who wish to join any society need to be able to subscribe to the core beliefs, objects and aims of the society – which for a Christian society necessarily include faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
