I call him DAD

By Adrienne Green

THEY CALL HIM K G P THE BEST IN THE BAY

TROUT TREMOR

AS THEY HEAR HIS FOOTSTEPS AROUND THE BAY.

OVER THE HILLS, AND DOWN THE WAY.

BUT I CALL HIM MY DAD

WHO UNTANGLED MY LINES, TO ‘CATCH’

MANY A FISH

OH HOW DIVINE

OUT COMES THE SMOKER, TO SMOKE THE FISH

AND PARSLEY AND SAUCE TO FINISH THE DISH.

THE BRIGHT ORANGE TROLLEY

THAT DADDY MADE FOR ME

WITH SUCH GLEE, FUN, AND SPEED WENT DOWN THE HILL,

THAT BRIGHT ORANGE TROLLEY,

OH WHAT A THRILL.

THAT SHANGHAI DADDY MADE FOR ME

WAS THE BEST AND STRONGEST BEHIND THE TREES.

AWAITING WILD BIRDS AND ANIMALS

DIDN’T HAVE A CHANCE

WITH THE SLING THAT WAS ACCURATE AND FAST.

THE HOLIDAYS WE WENT ON WITH MY DAD

OH WHAT FUN AND LAUGHTER WE DID HAVE.

FROM EARLY SUNRISE TO SUNSET. K G P WAS

THE BEST DAD, EVER

TO HAVE HAD.

WHERE HAVE THE YEARS GONE, AND THE

THINGS WE HAVE DONE.

WILL ALWAYS BE CHERISHED, AND HELD

ONTO WITH FUN.

AND DADDY RECEIVED JESUS AS HIS SAVIOUR,

AND FRIEND TOO.

NOW OUR HOPE FOR OUR FUTURE TOGETHER

IS SURE.

THROUGH OUR LAUGHS, TEARS, AND TALKS,

ALTHOUGH MANY MILES A PART.

TOGETHER WE ALWAYS WILL BE ONE AT

HEART.

I LOVE MY DAD…

Reflections of my Dad

I was really blessed having a dad who loved me and stood by me until the day he died at the age of nearly 86 last September  2015.

My sister and I were not brought up  in a Christian home but Dad had a strong sense of right and wrong.

My first memory  was when I was about 7  years old and Dad made me a hot house filled with pot plants – my very own garden.  I loved it. This is why even today I love  gardening and the colourful display of flowers.

When I was about 8 years old Dad would take me fishing and brought me a fishing rod.

Dad made Christmas very special for us. Every Christmas he created a lovely nativity scene  made  from straw in the fireplace. He would hand out all the  presents  one by one to each person from the Christmas  tree. Such wonderful  memories.

During the last 4 years of Dad’s life after mum died, he and I talked for many hours over the phone. He reminisced how he went to Sunday school as a young boy and was taught about Jesus. He shared with me how many times the Lord kept him safe and rescued  him from dangerous situations. Dad had a deep reverence  for the Lord, even though  he never went to church.

Dad loved all his grandchildren and would make each one feel special. I would walk around to his work place with our two children  in a double stroller and he would be so joyful to see us.

I thank the Lord I had a wonderful  Dad. end48
